New project of Dr. Ralf Helbig funded by DFG
The German Research Foundation (DFG) will support Dr. Ralf Helbig over the next three years through his project „Antifouling surfaces with spatially alternating interfacial properties".
With his collaborators Prof. Christian Hannig (Uniklinikum Dresden) and Prof. Matthias Hannig (Uniklinikum Homburg), he will work on a comprehensive understanding of bio-adhesion processes at surfaces with spatially alternating physico-chemical interfacial properties, such as periodic structures, alternating surface free energies, and alternating elasticities, covering lateral dimensions from the micro- to the nanoscale. Adsorption of biomolecules and bacterial adhesion on respective substrates will be analysed in vitro, but also in situ in the human oral cavity.
