The new paper Dynamic matrices with DNA-encoded viscoelasticity for cell and organoid culture by Yu-Hsuan Peng, Syuan-Ku Hsiao, Krishna Gupta, André Ruland, Günter K. Auernhammer, Manfred F. Maitz, Susanne Boye, Johanna Lattner, Claudia Gerri, Alfred Honigmann, Carsten Werner and Elisha Krieg presents a novel type of synthetic hydrogel known as DyNAtrix. The study demonstrates a new engineering approach for soft materials, where DNA sequence encodes key viscoelastic properties. By combining classical synthetic polymers with DNA nanotechnology, DyNAtrix provides a customized platform for studying the effect of viscoelastic properties on cell and organoid development. In the future, DyNAtrix can be used in basic research and personalized medicine, for example, to realistically reproduce and investigate patient- or disease-specific biological processes in the laboratory. The paper was published in Nature Nanotechnology.
