General Assembly
The General assembly is the supreme body of the association. The board of directors represents the association and is responsible for the long-term research planning. Currently, the association has seven voting members. The Free State of Saxony is a member of the association as a legal entity.

Board of Trustees
The board of trustees oversees all major scientific, economic and organizational issues of the association and is responsible, among other things, for approving research plans and program budgets. The board of trustees includes representatives of the funding bodies, a representative of the general assembly, and an expert elected by the general assembly.

Scientific Advisory Board
The scientific advisory board advises the board of trustees and the Board of Directors on all scientific, scientific-technical, structural and organizational issues of importance and evaluates structural changes.

The Scientific Advisory Board is constituted of up to ten external experts in the various fields of work of the Institute, both from Germany and abroad, with voting rights. The members of the Scientific Advisory Board are appointed by the Board of Trustees in consultation with the Board of Directors.
