Introduction to the physics of active soft matter
Responsible: Prof. Jens-Uwe Sommer,
Hours per week (1)
Language: English
Molecular motors, bacterial colonies and bird flocks are prime examplesof active matter. What distinguishes active from passive matter is thatthe constituting elements of active matter consume energy in order toself-propel or apply forces. The following topics will be considered inthis course:
- Theoretical and numerical approaches to Active matter
- Applications to elastic behavior of active gels and active Brownianparticles
- Fundamentals of non-equilibrium phase transitions in active matter with applications such as to the collective behavior in bird flocks
