The “35 under 35” list by Journal Matter (CellPress) has recognized Dr. Quinn A. Besford, Group Leader at the Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden e. V., for his impactful contributions to materials science.

This once-a-year list highlights 35 young PIs under 35 who are addressing major challenges in the field globally. Now in its third edition, the list showcases a diverse array of topics and participants, including five entries from Germany, one of which is from Dresden.

Focused on a key challenge in nanomedicine, Dr. Besford’s research aims to overcome biological barriers that limit therapeutic effectiveness, especially immune system responses. His team develops polymer nanoparticles specifically designed to bypass immune interactions, enhancing targeted applications in theranostics, which combines therapy and diagnostics. Additionally, his work on "messenger materials" — unique polymers embedded with fluorophores that generate spatially resolved signals in response to polymer chain movement — enables the study of physicochemical properties like force and pH in both material and biological contexts.

Congratulations to Dr. Quinn A. Besford for this well-deserved recognition! This celebrates not only his contributions to overcoming complex biomedical challenges but also the potential impact his discoveries hold for future advancements in therapeutic and diagnostic technologies.
